Sports have a short menu: win and lose.

Usually, that’s all that matters.

Then there’s the Dallas Cowboys.

Certainly, their 3-1 record surprised most people. On Sunday, they beat the Washington Commanders, 25-10, to win their third game in a row.

Even more shocking is that they were able to do it with backup quarterback Cooper Rush winning a third straight since replacing QB Dak Prescott started in s.spring opener after he was injured. Dak broke a bone in the thrower.

And after the Cowboys’ embarrassing season-opening loss and then Prescott injury, most thought the season was over for Jerry Jones’ team.

But before you join the Cowboys for the trip to the NFC title game, let’s take a closer look at what went on. It’s not as shiny as you think.

In fact, the Cowboys are scammers.

Despite their record and success to date, the Cowboys have benefited from NFL welfare, if you will.

They have appeased the bad teams.

On Sunday, the Cowboys may well have beaten Washington’s generals. Generals and Commanders are basically the same. Washington may be first in war, first in peace, and last in the East NFC.

In the opening goal, the Cowboys lost miserably with a score of 19-3 to the Tampa Bay Bucs. Prescott and the offense look horrible. Over the next three weeks, they only beat Cincinnati, the Jersey and Washington giants.

The Bengals can be seen as a quality win, but they’ve started the season poorly and made flips as if they were losing ground. Bengals QB Joe Burrow threw just 199 yards and a TD into the Dallas net.

The New York giants are in the same boat.

You look at Dallas’ flamboyant 3-1 record and marvel at it. Its stats and numbers don’t indicate a good team. Then you take a closer look and realize it hasn’t beaten anyone yet either.

No one got mad at the Cowboys for beating those who also demanded the ransom. That’s what you have to do. The point is to take a lot of the stake in those wins.

And the real test comes when the Cowboys face some of the better teams in the league, the team you need to beat when – and if – you fail post-season.

We saw this with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2020. They started the season 11-0. It was the worst 11-0 team in the NFL’s recorded history.

The Steelers had so many cupcakes on their schedule, they must have had a toothache.

That season, they lost 4 of the last 5 games. They limped into the end of the season 12-4 and were better beaten by the Cleveland Browns, 48-37. Don’t let the score fool you. It’s not that close.

Sure, the Cowboys have a good defence. We cannot take that away from them.

But the midfielder’s play is not great. Rush is still not close to throwing 300 yards, as 235 against the Bengals is his best to date this season. He only threw four TDs in three and a half games and had no interceptions.

All that could change this Sunday when the Rams host the Cowboys in LA

We understand. Cowboys have been so bad for a generation. They hadn’t attended an NFC Championship Game since 1995. It was a terrible 26-year drought.

Only Washington (30 years old), Detroit (30 years old), Cleveland (29 years old) and Miami (29 years old) have overcome the Super Bowl with a victory in a championship match.

However, Cowboys fans have always believed that this year is the year.

They were dancing in the street again. They have hope from this illusion to start the season.

Fans should enjoy it as much as possible. Going into the season, most thought they would win this division as it is best known as the NFC Least. But the Eagles played well and got off to a 4-0 start.

However, no one thought much of these cowboys in NFC – even with healthy Prescott.

Sure, some fans think Cowboys are tenderloins right now. But they actually look and taste like baloney.
