Jermell Charlo vs Brian Castano 2 This Saturday on Showtime

Via Allan Fox: Jermell Charlo faces Brian Castano in a rematch for the undisputed 154 lb championship this Saturday, May 14, on Showtime at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California. The battle card will be televised on Showtime at 9:00 p.m. ET.

WBO middleweight champion Castano (17-0-2, 12 KOs) and IBF/WBA/WBC champion Charlo (34-1-1, 18 KOs) drew 12 rounds in July last year in San Antonio, Texas.

Many boxing fans felt that 32-year-old Argentinian Castano did enough to deserve the win, as he beat Jermell and beat Jermell, but two of the referees felt differently.

Judges need to do the right thing

One of the judges’ scorecards raised an eyebrow with a score of 117-111 in favor of Charlo. In other words, the referee watched Charlo win 9-3 in an almost razor-sharp match.

Fans took the score as a sign that Castano never got a chance to play Jermell in his home state of Texas.

Whether the score will be any better when the Charlo vs Castano rematch is moved to Carson, California, remains to be seen. The last thing fans need is a second controversial result between these opponents and the middleweights.

The last time they fought, Charlo fought fiercely, displaying great strength, and wounded Castano a few times. However, Charlo was not active enough and allowed Castano to dominate large chunks of the skirmish.

You could argue that Jermell’s low punch output is similar to the usual way Canelo Alvarez fights. Jermell will deliver a powerful blow, and then disappear while being bombarded by Castano.

There may be fitness issues with Charlo, 31, that keep him from being consistent with his offense. In addition, there may also be some mental impairment.

Charlo seemed distracted, perhaps stressed by Castano’s relentless shots. One takeaway from their first fight was that Jermell didn’t like being beaten and seemed afraid to let go when he was crucified by Castano.

Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis vs Custio Clayton

In the co-feature, undefeated heavyweight contender Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis (28-0.26 KOs) faced undefeated 2012 Olympian Custio Clayton (19-0-1, 12 KOs) in the match. 147-lb IBF 147-lb critical 12-round knockout. .

The winner of the Ennis vs Custio showdown will be the mandatory challenger to IBF champion Errol Spence Jr.

“We learned a lot from the last battle. One of the things I’ve learned is to be a lot more careful inside the ring and a little more attentive and cautious when getting in there,” Brian Castano told media about his unity clash with Jermell Charlo last July in San Antonio, Texas.

“He is strong. It was a clash of power. We learned from the mistakes in that fight,” Castano said.
