Jermell Charlo Too Much For Terence Crawford With 154 Sayings Regis Prograis

Via Adam Baskin: Regis Prograis says Terence Crawford will get too far if he advances to 154 to challenge undisputed champion Jermell Charlo for his four belts.

It would be a step too far for Crawford (38-0.29 KO) to face Jermell (35-1-1.19 KO) in Prograis’ estimate because of Charlo’s size difference and natural strength.

Crawford hasn’t really been tested at 147 by any elite member of the division yet, so it’s going to be very demanding of him moving up to 154 to take on the best boxer in the division in Jermell. .

If Crawford loses to IBF, WBA & WBO welterweight champion Errol Spence when or if that bout happens, it will be academic that he can’t mess with Jermell Charlo.

Crawford decided he wanted to go up to 154 after he faced Spence, and that move made sense. If 35-year-old Crawford were still 147, he would have had to fight Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis, and that guy was all wrong for him.

Crawford is no spring chicken, and the last thing he needs is to mix it up with younger, stronger, and bigger Boots Ennis.

As Crawford rises to 154, he may need to wait a year or two before getting a shot at Jermell Charlo because there’s a long line of contenders waiting for their title against him.

As such, we can look at Crawford getting a title when he hit 37, and that’s pretty old to be fighting for a world title at 154-lb.

“I really, really don’t,” Regis Prograis told Fighthype when asked who won between Errol Spence Jr and Terence Crawford. “In the beginning, I was all Errol. I’ve fought Errol in amateur levels and things like that. So for me, it’s all Errol.

“I know he’s strong, he’s a greater man, but Crawford has been destroying people. Crawford vs Shawn Porter, and he vs Kell Brook. He knocked them both down.

“Shawn Porter gave Errol a tough fight. I really don’t know, man. Okay, if I have to lean a little. If you put a shotgun to my chest, I’d probably say Errol because he’s a 147-pound natural athlete. That’s it. I still can’t even choose.

“I think he can go up to 154, but I don’t think he can beat Jermell,” Prograis said of Crawford. “Crawford got hit too, and I didn’t see him take those punches. Jermell hit very hard.

Jermell hit hard; he really does. He really hit really hard. He can also box, but that f**** mom really has some power in both of his hands. So I think Crawford can definitely go up. In terms of skill, I think he can definitely go up.

“But to mess with Jermell, I don’t think he can mess with Jermell right now. Jermell is one of the few people today in boxing where we can say, ‘He’s the best in the league.’ Like literally.

“He has all the belts. Jermell is the best. He really should get more credit because right now, you can’t even say that about Errol. Errol is Errol and Crawford. At 135, Devin really is a man, but those are still conversations.

“People say, ‘You have Gervonta and Devin, and then you have Shakur.’ But Devin really has all the belts, so he should be the #1 guy. However, people say other things.

“At 140, my department, people say it’s me, then they have Jose Ramirez, and then they still have Josh Taylor, and then you have Jack Catterall. So it is a lot of debate.

“But at 154, there’s no question. Jermell is a man at 154. If you say, ‘Who’s the champion?’ Anyone on the street, if you say, ‘Who’s the best boxer at 154,’ people on the street will say, ‘Jermell Charlo is the best, lower your hands,’ Mr Prograis said.
