Jermall Charlo predicts Canelo KOs Bivol in rematch

Via Sean Jones: Jermall Charlo paid tribute to frontman Canelo Alvarez on Thursday, predicting that the Mexico star will knock out his conqueror Dmitry Bivol in their rematch.

Charlo is pouring it thick with Canelo’s praises, and he might be going a little too far.

It’s not clear where Jermall got the idea that Canelo would KO Bivol in the rematch, as he never nearly hurt him last Saturday night.

Indeed, Canelo looked so tired after three rounds, that he could only practice 20 punches per round. Given Canelo’s anemic pace of work, he has no chance of taking down Bivol or winning a decision without confusing the team of judges working on the fight.

As it was, the set of 115-113 Scored by the Nevada umpires, last Saturday’s game between Canelo and Bivol did not reflect well for the three, as fans saw the match as a 10-2 win for Bivol, not a score of 7. -5. Those scores have been disqualified from being linked to reality.

All the good things Jermall had to say about Canelo (57-2-2, 39 KOs) has more than a few boxing fans saying the Texan is literally ‘beseeching’ for the fight with the Mexican star next year.

Jermall says Canelo will take down Bivol

“This fight is still interesting because we don’t know what the referees are thinking every time Canelo vs Bivol, but I’ve never seen Canelo adjust‘ Jermall Charlo said to Against TV Hub about Canelo Alvarez’s loss to Dmitry Bivol.

“He started at 100, and he was at 100, and never made adjustments. That’s it,” Jermall continued, sounding more like someone on Canelo’s public relations team than someone hoping to take on him in 2023.

It would be a bad idea if Jermall joined in with what significant numbers of boxing fans are saying about Canelo after his poor performance against WBA lightweight champion Bivol.

We’ve already seen what happens when a boxer takes Canelo’s wrong side, as they’re supposed to be frozen.

“Canelo is still a great champion and one of the best in the world. We have to give him respect; he will become a legend in sports. No one cares about him,” Jermall said.

“I feel like they’re rematching, Canelo will probably take him down,“Jermall said hopeful about what Canelo could do in the rematch against Bivol.

If Canelo manages to knock Bivol down, he is likely to swoop and slam into the curb like an old car. The Mexican star doesn’t have the fitness to push a pace fast enough to cause any trouble for Bivol, and if he tries, he risks being punctured again.

“You can’t doubt Canelo because of that one loss,” Charlo said. “I have respect for him. He should poke a little more, and get inside the stab,” Charlo said of what Canelo should have done to win.

“Bivol has a bit of scope. He was outside, and he crashed. It was an interesting battle. Bivol down to 168 to fight Canelo? That would be interesting again. It suits Canelo, but Canelo fought him at 175. I don’t think weight matters at the moment.

“Yes, if he drops to 160,” Jermall said when asked if he was still interested in fighting Canelo. “We can find an attractive weight at 165 or something like that. He’s split the weight, so we don’t know what’s going to happen.

“I am a 160 lb champion. My focus is on Jermall Charlo at the moment. I don’t really care about that,” Jermall said when asked if Canelo was offered a large sum of money for a fight against him. “I know some money was offered to him, but he didn’t take it. So you just keep moving, this is boxing,” said Charlo.
