Jen Shah telemarketing scam victims warn others


With the former The True Housewives of Salt Lake City star Jen Shah Sentenced to six and a half years in prison, two reality TV star telemarketing ploys are breaking their silence.

During the Thursday morning broadcast of Good Morning AmericaABC News reporter Erielle Reshef spoke to some of the many victims of the scheme, which she said were “lives ruined”.

Victims share their stories to protect others

One such person—a 75-year-old woman named Tricia—had lost half of her life savings.

Specifically, she made $47,000 “on the false promise that Shah’s company would help her start an online business.” She also noted that Shah’s plan also sounded “very legitimate” and pointed out, “I’m not a fool.”

“I’m telling the world: I was stupid enough to get caught up in a scam. And I’m not a fool, but I made a big mistake.”

Additionally, Tricia shared that, although she wants to keep the situation to herself, she doesn’t want others to “go through that shame”. [she] went through.”

Another victim named Molly McLaughlin, 44, also shared her story.

“I probably spent about $44,000 on six credit cards. All [which] I went into bankruptcy, because of course I couldn’t afford it.”

In the end—because the victims were mostly from vulnerable populations, such as the elderly—Jen Shah’s plot did quite a bit of damage.

As for Tricia, she said she had fallen into a “deep depression”.

“I just recovered from falling into depression…You get to a point where there is no way out.”

The 75-year-old added: ‘I don’t have money to take care of myself [anymore].”

Jen Shah will begin serving a federal prison sentence next month

Like Shade room previously reported, Jen Shah received a sentence of 78 months on January 6, 2023. This sentence was reduced to nearly six months after Jen Shah pleaded guilty after repeatedly declaring her innocence on January 6, 2023. RHOSLC.

She is due to appear in federal prison on February 17. In addition, Jen was ordered to pay $6 million in restitution, which she vowed to do during her sentencing.
