JD Sports cyber attack may have exposed millions of names, numbers and addresses | Science & Tech News

JD Sports is contacting customers affected by a cyber attack that may have exposed their personal information.

The incident affected 10 million people who placed orders between November 2018 and October 2020.

Customer names, shipping, billing and email addresses, phone numbers and the last four digits of bank cards are likely to be exposed.

It includes people who have shopped at JD as well as the group’s Size, Millets, Blacks, Scotts and MilletSport brands.

The sportswear company does not believe the account passwords have been accessed and has assured those affected that all of their payment card details are not withheld.

However, they are being warned to watch out for phishing emails, calls and texts.

In an email to customers, JD Sports said: “We take the protection of our customers’ data very seriously and we regret that this happened.”

The company said it was engaging with the UK’s Office of the Information Commissioner about the hack.

“We took the immediate necessary steps to investigate and respond to the incident, including working with leading cybersecurity experts,” the company added.

Neil Greenhalgh, JD’s chief financial officer, said: “We are continuing to conduct a full review of our cybersecurity in cooperation with external experts in the wake of this incident.

“Protecting customer data is an absolute priority for JD.”
