Jasosystem Bumrah was forced to withdraw from India’s T20 team during their series against South Africa, casting doubt on his participation in the World Cup in Australia.

With the World Cup kicking off on October 16, bowlers are quickly racing against time to stay fit.

BCCI confirmed that Bumrah is suffering from a back injury and Mohammad Siraj has been called up to replace him.

India won the first of three T20 tournaments with eight outstanding players, but Bumrah was absent due to back pain.

Deepak Chahar and Arshdeep Singh act as the frontline leaders, with youngster Singh leading 3-3.

The BCCI said on Twitter after throwing the first T20I against South Africa: “Jasionary Bumrah complained of back pain during India’s training session on Tuesday.” “BCCI’s medical team evaluated him. He was excluded from the first #INDvSA T20I.”

Bumrah has endured nagging back troubles in recent months, missing the Asian Cup in August and September.

He returned to India’s squad for the match against Australia, playing the second and third T20 matches on September 23 and 25, scoring one goal in two matches.

After his second T20 win over Australia in Nagpur, Rohit Sharma said he was pleased to see the bowler return quickly, adding that it was “a pleasure to see him at the park”.

With the World Cup’s first match on October 16, Bumrah could miss the tournament due to injury.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel and Singh were the other three fast pitchers in India’s squad for the World Cup, with Mohammed Shami and Deepak Chahar waiting on the bench.

It would be a big blow from India, who missed Bumrah’s quick pace in the Asian Cup.

The 28-year-old has made 70 T20 international tackles in 60 games for India since his debut in 2016.

Ravindra Jadeja has been ruled out of the World Cup because of a knee injury.

India have until October 15 to change their roster, with India not playing until October 23 at the MCG in Melbourne against Pakistan.
