Via Brian Webber: Unbeatable heavyweight champion contender Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis (28-0.26 KOs) is planning to use his gay bout tonight against Custio Clayton (19-0-1, 12 KOs) as a platform to increase his popularity with casual boxing fans who have never seen him in action.
Ennis, 24, and 2012 Canadian Olympic gymnast Clayton are fighting in the IBF rival weight class knockout.
The winner will be the mandatory challenger to the IBF champion Errol Spence Jrbut the winner will likely fight for the vacant title later this year.
Boots Ennis undefeated, who many feel is the next superstar in the 147 lb division to replace Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawfordboth will increase to 154 by 2023.
Boots is arguably the most talented boxer on tonight’s card, outperforming main event boxers Jermell Charlo and Brian Castano.
Many believe that Ennis is talented enough to beat Charlo and Castano if he is moved into the main event to challenge either of those two 154-lb champions for their titles.
Ennis wants to knock Clayton out in six rounds, and he says it won’t help the 34-year-old if he tries to run away from him to delay the inevitable.
