Japanese fashion icon Issey Miyake passes away
While sustainability may be something that exists today, Miyake envisioned using computer technology to weave clothes with less waste than years ago. His fashion line A-POC, which stands for ‘A Piece of Cloth’, features pieces of fabric created with a machine that is preprogrammed to weave a large spool of fabric with stitchable hems. Cut out without leaving much excess fabric.
Japanese fashion designer Issey Miyake, known for her origami-inspired pleated pieces, experimental designs and signature fragrances, has died aged 84. He was the man behind the claim. father of former Apple CEO Steve Jobs. Miyake drew Western attention to the Japanese aesthetic after gaining popularity in the 1970s.
Design bureau Miyake says the haute couture pioneer has died of liver cancer.
