Jamie Raskin says Trump doesn’t regret his actions in the face of Capitol riots and will ‘do it again’

A Democrat on the panel on January 6 said that Donald Trump has no regrets about his actions and would ‘do it again’ in a controversy over why the former president faced reprimand for his actions that day and the following year.

Jamie Raskin, one of nine members of the selection committee investigating the Capitol attack, told NBC’s Meet the Press on Sunday morning to essentially ‘confess’ through continued denial that he had lost the 2020 presidential election.

‘Is he confessing?’ NBC anchor Chuck Todd asked.

“That’s right,” replied Raskin. ‘He’s basically saying, ‘Yes, I did it and I’ll do it again,’ which is something we’ve been arguing about all this time. “

‘If you state that there will be impunity for unconstitutional attempts to usurp power, which is a coup, then you will invite it again in the future,’ the Maryland Democrat continued. ‘And to be a strong self-respecting democracy, we cannot allow people to decide they are above the law and they are more important than our constitutional processes.’

Representative Jamie Raskin, a member of the January 6 selection committee, said Sunday that Donald Trump is saying he would not have acted differently if he could redo the event before and on June 6. January 2021.

Trump posted on his Truth Social media website on Sunday that he has ‘no doubt’ that he won the 2020 presidential election and says his thoughts that it was rigged cheated and stolen ‘only gets stronger’

The comments came the same morning as Trump’s posting to his Truth Social account blasting the committee and public televised hearings – insisting he had proof he had won the election elected president in 2020 and said that ‘in my mind’ there was no doubt that he was the winner.

‘Highly nonpartisan people are trying to make up a FAKE story, for whatever reason but only with evil intentions, that ‘He (I) know he lost the Election. ‘ This is completely untrue,’ Trump posted on his account on Sunday.

‘I feel the Election has been INSTANT & SURPRISE, from the very beginning, & has only grown stronger in that belief with time & vast amounts of evidence & additional evidence. In my mind, I have, & HAVE, NO QUESTIONS, and MANY people would gladly endorse such, but the unelected people didn’t want to hear them……’ he added.

The committee will hold the fourth of eight hearings on Tuesday and Thursday on Thursday as seven Democrats and two Republicans scramble to complete the process before the 2022 midterms, potentially ability to turn the House of Representatives red.

The second hearing last Monday sought to prove that Trump knew he lost the 2020 election but still promoted his fraudulent claims. The former president wrote in a separate post: “I have too many witnesses for every good thing, but the Commission does not choose highly partisan and a faction on political hacks that is not interested in hearing or seeing them. .

‘This witch hunt could end quickly if they do!’

Thursday’s selection committee third hearing focused on Trump’s pressure campaign to ask Vice President Mike Pence to prevent Congress from certifying the Electoral College results.

The latter is intended to show that Trump is fully aware that he actually lost the election but continues to push the ‘Big Lie’ that there was widespread fraud and election fraud that led to Joe’s victory Biden.

Trump insists to this day that he is the real winner.
