James Tavernier: Rangers captain signs contract extension | Football news
James Tavernier has signed an extension to his current long-term contract at Rangers.
The Rangers captain, 30, joined the Championship club in 2015 and has made 353 appearances to date, scoring 85 goals from right-back.
Tavernier, who has committed to a new deal that will bring him into his 30s, said: “I just want to spend more years here and have that security.
“It’s a great place to play and I can’t wait to see what the coming years will bring.
“I’m settling down here, my family is settling down here, so it’s not necessary to extend the line of communication.”
Tavernier was the last player left from the club’s days in the lower divisions of Scottish football, winning the championship and the Petrofac Cup.
After two years at the top, Tavernier was appointed permanent captain of the club in the summer of 2018 under Steven Gerrard.
He lifted the No 55 title in 2021 before also adding the Scottish Cup to his collection last season.
Tavernier is one of four Rangers captains to lead his side to a European final against the Europa League finalist in Seville in May.
