Jameis Winston, Alvin Kamara have questions for Week 3

With the release of the injury report on Friday, the Saints revealed that midfield start James Winston (back, ankle) and back run Alvin Kamara (ribs) are questionable issues against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Meanwhile, full-back Alontae Taylor has been eliminated.

It’s no surprise that Winston or Kamara are on the injury report, as both are dealing with early-season illnesses. While the Saints’ chances of victory are greatly reduced without Kamara, Winston’s potential absence includes an unknown element.

If he can’t play, the Saints will turn to Andy Dalton, whom they signed for the season. While he is an upgrade over previous Saints backups Trevor Siemian or Ian Book, Dalton is a QB whose best days are behind him.

He has appeared in eight games for the Bears in 2021, throwing 1,515 yards, eight touchdowns and nine interceptions.

Dalton began his career in Cincinnati in 2011, playing nine seasons for the Bengals before the two sides split after the 2019 season. He began playing nine games in 2020 with the Dallas Cowboys.

In a career of 11 seasons and 148 appearances, Dalton has a record of 77-69-2.
