I’ve wanted the British title since I was young
Dalton Smith has a Lonsdale belt in his sights.
The Sheffield boxer, the most decorated amateur to ever step out of the Steel City, brought his electric figure into the professional ranks, winning all but two of the 11 distance competitions.
Smith, who was coached by his father Grant and managed by Paul Ready and Sean O’Toole at STN Sports, dominated Mauro Perouene last time out, beating the Argentine in six rounds at the Arena. Cardiff’s Motorpoint in June to retain his WBC International Silver title at 10 stone.
And now, having also won the WBA international and English titles in the weight class, The 25-year-old will face Sam O’Maison on August 6with the pair clashing at the Utilita Arena in Sheffield for the vacant British title.
Speaking of his promotional outfits, Matchroom Boxing YouTube ChannelSmith says:
“I want to take this opportunity with both hands, I have dreamed of this place since I was a kid and it gives you a proper buzz.
“I’m lifting the Lonsdale belt over my head tonight.”
O’Maison (17-3-1, 17 KOs) is a 31-year-old male player who, like Smith, was born in Sheffield. He is a former British champion in the weight division and last competed in May when he overcame Serge Ambomo in four rounds at the Platinum Suite in Bramall Lane, Sheffield United’s home ground.
But Smith knows that, after churning out sensational performances so far in his career both amateur and professional, he has what it takes to be able to forge his path.
Smith added:
“If the stop comes, the stop comes, if not and the fight goes on for 12 rounds, so be it.
“This is what I got into boxing with my dad, to achieve it together. I have wanted the British title since I was young and I can only see one result. “
Jordan Thompson takes his first step on the card, competing for the first title when he meets Vasil Ducar for the vacated IBF European heavy cruiser belt, while Sandy Ryan will have a chance to avenge the loss. Her only defeat to date as a pro came in her previous rematch. World champion Erica Farias with a vacant WBC International lightweight medal is at stake.
Aqib Fiaz appears on the card alongside Kieron Conway, who warms up against Aro Schwartz before his game against Austin ‘Ammo’ Williams, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas as part of a trio clash between Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin, for the vacant WBA International middleweight belt, while undefeated trio Campbell Hatton, Johnny Fisher and Hopey Price will act.
Nico Leivars, Smith’s gym buddy, Junaid Bostan and local lightweight Callum Beardow complete the card.
