Polimoda, Italy’s Florentine fashion school, has opened the door to the world of costume design through a new short course in collaboration with Broadway, led by choreographer and director Lorin Latarro.
Along with that, the most talented students will be selected to practice at the famous theater district of New York.

Dressing up a musical is an art form that requires creativity, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of the characters’ personalities. Costume designers must have expertise in fabric and sewing techniques based on the necessary movements on stage, but they especially need to know how to use costumes to represent specific contexts or moods.
That’s why acclaimed Broadway choreographer and director Lorin Latarro has been selected by Polimoda as a mentor for a new short course in Costume Design that begins in July 2023.
Latarro will share his expertise and experience with students in an introductory course in costume design, assisted by Broadway experts and teachers at the school.

The short course in Costume Design will be held in Polimoda’s studios in Florence and last for one month, during which time students will gain specific knowledge of cultural and technical aspects art of costume design and uncover the secrets behind the iconic looks of popular New York musicals. They will learn all the steps involved in creating a costume for a musical character, from first visual concept to final design and prototype production.
At the end of the course, the top student will also have the opportunity to do a Broadway internship with Lorin Latarro, flying to New York to practice what they’ve learned in Polimoda’s workshops.
