When most people think of Death Valley in California, they think of a place that never rains with sun-bleached cow skulls, thermal sands, and German tourists in cars. Mustang convertible for rent. Death Valley has it all, but actually, sometimes it rains there too. In reality, it’s been raining there this week, and it’s been raining heavily over many hells.
How much is a lot? It has the normal amount of rain in a year for about three hours. With water pouring into a place with very little vegetation on the ground, you’ll get landslides and flooding.
YouTuber SuperfastMatt (aka the guy with the superbike-powered Honda S600 you saw at Leno’s Garage) discovered how bad roads can get when he recently attempted to traverse Death Valley to get to the Bonneville Salt Flats (which also rained, closing Speed Week).
During his hour-long drive through the severely damaged Death Valley, Matt rescued a bunch of European tourists (seriously, what is that? Europeans and Death Valleythey like it there) by pulling them out of the mud, out of the rock, and convincing them to turn around instead of crossing the flooded pavement.
The footage he captured from his modified 4Runner is astounding and shows how much California’s DOT must work to make the tourist attraction (and death trap) fit for consumption again. general public.
