ISRO successfully demonstrates free space quantum communication in India
On March 22, ISRO successfully performed a ground-breaking demonstration of the Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) in free space. 300 m.
Many important and pivotal technologies have been developed to accomplish the goal, including the use of natively developed NAVIC receivers for time synchronization between transmitters.
- What is the quantum key distribution?
Quantum key distribution (QKD) is a secure communication method that implements a cryptographic protocol related to components of quantum mechanical. It allows two parties to generate a shared random secret Key only known to them, which can then be used to encrypt and decrypt messages.
This Free Space QKD was carried out at the Space Applications Center (SAC) in Ahmedabad, between two buildings in the 300 m ISRO headland.
It is shaped at night to accommodate the absence of sunlight interference.
Satellite-based quantum communication system ensures unconditional data.
This demonstration includes live video streaming using the Quantum Key Encryption System.
