Is Marjorie Taylor Greene too great for Trump?

It’s been quite a week for the women closely associated with Donald Trump. While one person gave testimony in a New York court detailing how she allegedly beat the former US president with a rolled-up magazine in the penthouse, another was booed in Congress when she tried – and failed – to oust the speaker of the House. (Another person was forced to continue to defend killed her dog with a shotgun.)
The boo, and the focus of this column, is Marjorie Taylor Greene, the CrossFit conspiracy and conspiracy theorizing congresswoman from Georgia aka “MTG.” Only 10 Republicans supported her “motion to remove” Mike Johnson as chairman, a humiliating defeat.
“Moscow Marjorie clearly overstepped the mark – possibly as a result of a space laser,” one lawmaker told reporters. (Laser refers to Greene’s suggestion that the 2018 wildfires in California may have been caused by “space lasers” funded by the Rothschilds; “Moscow Marjorie” refers to her opposition to military aid to Ukraine .) “Most of us, at that point When we turned 12, we realized that anger doesn’t really work and clearly not everyone in Congress got the memo hey,” said another. “She is ignorant, she is a complete waste of time,” said one senior senator.
You might think that these are just the usual types of criticism one would expect from members of the opposition, especially against the far right like MTG. But the comments came from members of her own party (Mike Lawler, Dusty Johnson and Thom Tillis, respectively). Even some conservative media outlets turned their backs on Greene, on Fox News call her “idiot” and Rupert Murdoch’s New York Post Photoshop a Russian fur hat on her photo with the headline “NYET, MOSCOW MARJORIE.”
Greene is certainly the most loyal and enthusiastic of Trump’s supporters in Congress – the embodiment of the Maga faction of the GOP. She has backed his claim that the 2020 election was stolen; supported the effort to impeach Joe Biden; and last year, when Trump was about to be arrested and charged in connection with the ongoing hush money trial, she compared him to Jesus and Nelson Mandela.
However, none of her detractors in the group seem concerned that going after her will get them in trouble with The Big Boss. And Trump is hardly on her side. He say on his Social truth forum on Thursday that while he “absolutely loves” Greene, this is “not the time” to try to oust Johnson and that “disunity” in the party will “negatively affect every rank”. You too denounced held a meeting at Mar-a-Lago last weekend with several senior Republicans, in what some saw as an audition for the vice presidency. MTG, who announced last year was on the “list” of possible VP picks, is NFI. Among those people, who appeared to be irritating Greene, was Johnson.
This is not the first time Trump has rejected his most devoted friend. When I was at Mar-a-Lago in February, at an event dedicated to “celebrating Trump” since Greene had flown in specifically, I noticed Trump had not acknowledged her at all. After giving his speech and walking through the crowd, he completely ignored Greene, who was trying to say something to him. A similar dismissive attitude was expressed last June in Georgia, where Trump had just arrived for a conference – Greene stood to applaud him on the tarmac and he pointed go straight into the past.
The problem for Greene is that, while she may have once been useful to Trump — when he had to compete with the likes of Ron DeSantis for the right-wing Republican base — he is now candidate he doesn’t need her anymore. Not only is she no longer useful, but she could actually hurt Trump by associating himself with her too much. Secured premises; that is the center to which he must now appeal. And some of his supporters have told me that there is a gap between what Trump says to appeal to the Maga crowd and what he actually believes.
Another problem is that Trump considers himself a “personluxurious” boy. He may be critical of the upper class, but he also yearns to be accepted and loved by them. He likes things like that “elegant”, and Greene did not fit into that world. When former BBC journalist Emily Maitlis asked her about “Jewish space lasers”, Greene told her to “go away”. A recent message sent to British Foreign Secretary David Cameron was “kiss my ass”.
I have seen suggestions on social media that Greene’s problem is that she is “not Trump’s type.” With countless beauties he surrounded himself staff And legal team, I do not consider this an unreasonable theory. But it’s more than that. Nowadays, MTG seems too Maga for DJT.
