Via Chris Williams: After years of waiting, it looks like Errol Spence Jr and Terence Crawford are finally set to fight on November 19 for the welterweight title.
While some boxing fans see the match as an even, many others with keen eyes and following the two boxers’ actual records feel that Spence (28-0.22 KOs) will be winner.
It wasn’t a knock down to WBO belt holder Crawford (38-0.29 KOs), but his track record is weak at 140 and 147. He doesn’t have the welterweight underbelts to see him. is the favorite against Spence.
Furthermore, Crawford lacked the caliber to be considered possessing the talent to defeat Errol.
Crawford’s division title wins:
- Ricky Burns – WBO 135
- Chris Algieri – WBO 140
- Jeff Horn – WBO 147
It was a series of underdogs that Crawford defeated to become a three-division world champion.
Yes, it’s not Crawford’s fault that he beat those three boxers to become world champion in three divisions, but the truth is still who he beat.
You Can’t Appreciate Crawford Because He Didn’t Beat The likes of Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, Vasyl Lomachenko Regis Prograis or Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis to claim his belt in the third weight classes.
“Most people think it’s 50-50,” Ade Oladipo said to DAZN Boxing Show about the fight between Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford. “This is a war where anything can happen.
“This is as good as it gets. This is pound-for-pound #1 versus pound-for-pound #5. People talk about whether it can hit a miracle million. It can hit a million.” it “.
Crawford is no longer #1 pound-for-pound. That position is currently occupied by IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk. In order for Crawford to have a shot to recapture No 1, he will need to beat Spence, and I don’t think he has the talent to do that.
“We’re talking about the best boxers in the world,” Ade said.
“In my opinion, Sugar Ray Leonard and Tommy Hearns would be more similar because they are heavyweights and the fights have completely different styles. It was an interesting fight with 15 circle players,” said Sergio Mora.
“This is kind of great old school in Bud Crawford and Errol Spence. I don’t know who won that war. Sometimes I think it’s Crawford. Sometimes I think it’s Spence’s size. I think it’s the biggest fight in boxing,” Mora said.
If you look at Spence’s final fight against Yordenis Ugas, you can’t bring Crawford into the picture as an opponent for Errol. Crawford will not be able to accept the punishment that Ugas took on Spence without giving up. Crawford would bike and avoid Spence rather than go to war with him the way Ugas did.
“The thing about Errol Spence. In the last few fights, he had to dig deep,” Ade said. “He has to dig deep against Shawn [Porter]. I told everyone that Shawn would cause problems. Shawn causes problems for anyone. “
The only reason Spence had to dig deep against Shawn Porter was that he deliberately chose to rush into him at close range to try to beat him at his own game.
Ade said: “He has to dig deep against Ugas. “I’m not trying to say he’ll slip a bit, but after the car accident he was out for a while too. I felt that the Errol we saw was against Kell Brook, and I was there for that match. I didn’t know that Errol still existed,” Ade said.
“It’s November 19, and it’s perfect for now. I started to worry about how long Crawford had been out of the ring,” Ade said. “We made it through that year, and that was too long for Crawford.
“He looks great. Crawford is 34 years old. Age can make you fall in love with anyone, but he looks amazing.”
“For me, Errol Spence is unbreakable,” Mora said. “To come back and do what he did to win the championship and still do it at the highest level.
“We know he’s a good boxer, an Olympic athlete, and everything. The fact that he’s been back since could destroy the way he does it and who he fights right after. That shows his temperament, and that’s hard to beat,” Mora said.
“In the contract, they will put a rematch clause. They’re going to put everything into this one,” Ade said. “I wonder. You look at division 147. There are some young killers coming up. Vergil Ortiz is coming. Boots Ennis coming soon.
“I know everyone talks highly of Boots Ennis, but he’s stayed away from that for now. If your Terence Crawford and Errol Spence, you don’t want to give Boots [a chance]. What do you take out of it? “
“You take calculated risks,” says Mora. “I know that doesn’t sound right to fans, but if you’re going to manage your career, a boxer wants to make the most money with the least amount of risk. That’s it.”
“Who has had a better career? I know Terence is a three-division world champion, and Errol pretty much scored the 147th,” Ade said.
“People will say that Terence is high on the pound-for-pound charts. When you look at that resume, it’s a bit thin in terms of names that really stand out.
“When you look at Errol Spence’s. The battle of Kell Brook, which I think was a very, very good one. Danny Garcia, Ugas is also a nice person,” Ade said.
“If you talk about big names, you have to go for Errol Spence,” said Akin Reyes.
“I like ‘The Truth’. It’s not a reality, it’s an American thing. I just love Errol Spence Jr. I’ve been following him since the Olympics. I think he’s a beast,” said Mora.
“I will support Crawford, but my heart is with Spence. I think Spence will have a natural size advantage, and he’s an excellent bodybuilder. Crawford is a bit more nimble. Both of them have the power to do it at any time,” said Mora.
“I don’t know any of them, and I’m picking Terence Crawford to win this war,” Ade said.
