iPhone 15 Series will come with Sony’s most modern image sensor: Report


The iPhone 15 series is expected to launch next year, however, rumors have begun to circulate about its various specifications. A new report has surfaced claiming Sony will supply Apple with the most advanced image sensors for its next iPhone line. The sensor in question has yet to be put into production by Sony. It will be manufactured at Sony’s Nagasaki plant. The company is said to have invested heavily in image sensors with the hope of capturing around 60% of the complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) image sensor market by 2025.

This new image sensor is said to feature twice the saturation signal level in each pixel compared to conventional sensors. It is said to be able to capture more light and reduce overexposure or underexposure. These features are said to allow the image sensor to clearly capture a person’s face even when backlit.

Sony is said to have controlled about 44% of the CMOS image sensor market by 2021, while Samsung is second with 18.5%. The company has announced plans to spend 900 billion JYP (approximately Rs. 53,000 crore) on image sensors throughout 2023. It hopes to capture around 60% of the CMOS image sensor market by 2025.

Recently report hints that the iPhone 15 Pro series could have an 8P lens, which would be an upgrade from the 7P lens found on iPhone 14 Pro model. Also, iPhone 15 Pro Max — expected to debut like the iPhone 15 Ultra – which is said to have a periscope camera with 10x optical zoom.
