It seems that some prominent third-party apps have compatibility issues with rear camera unit. Users have reported issues including shaking, rattling, and mechanical noise coming from the device when using apps like Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat, like report. There also seems to be a problem with autofocus and focus.
Along with sharing report the above problems like and , some have shared videos showing the problem. An image depicting the grinding sound coming from an iPhone 14 Pro when Snapchat is open. Another issue shows the same problem while TikTok accesses the rear cameras.
Since these issues only appear when third-party apps are being used, rather than Apple’s own Camera app, a software issue could be the cause, like 9to5 Mac shown. In particular, apps may not work well with the iPhone 14 Pro’s optical image stabilization, which seems to be the cause of the shake. It’s not yet clear if the problem is with Apple or third-party apps. Engadget has reached out to Apple, TikTok, Snap and Meta for comment.
