IONOS and Fasthosts to migrate Gloucester data center to £21m Worcester facility
Europe web hosting (opens in a new tab) sure IONOS (opens in a new tab) and its subsidiary in the UK Fasthosts (opens in a new tab) opened a new data center located in Worcester Six Business Park and will migrate all its data from existing Gloucester Rent a location (opens in a new tab) it has been used before.
Costing around £21 million, the move is expected to take 18 months to complete and will provide 1.5 million square meters of accommodation when the Worcester Business Park is fully developed.
IONOS and Fasthosts also have an additional £5 million expansion project for the new data center in the works and said TechRadar Pro at the groundbreaking ceremony in Worcester that the facility was the first it had ever been built remotely.
Industrial data center
After the UK banned the use of red diesel in April 2022, IONOS and Fasthosts opted to use vegetable oil as HVO fuel (an advanced renewable diesel alternative) in the new facility.

Kettler adds that one of the biggest platforms of IONOS is shared hosting (opens in a new tab) services are growing 10% annually, but despite this growth, web hosts plan to reduce their power over time as computers are becoming more efficient. He said that this will help IONOS provide better service at the same cost.

The data center also has solar photovoltaic panels that cover up to 10% of the energy used on site, and although the facility does not currently recycle heat, IONOS and Fasthosts say they are taking the necessary steps to ensure that it will be successful soon.
