Interior of Genesis X Speedium Coupe concept ready for production

The Genesis X Speedium Coupe Concepts was announced in April, but now we get to see its interior.

The luxury car brand Hyundai displayed the interior of the electric coupe concept for the first time at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in 2022, the key event of Monterey Car Week. And it looks like production is ready.

Genesis creative director Luc Donckerwolke said: “The interior embodies the Genesis brand’s ‘Beauty of white space’ design ethos, matching a wide range of luxury lifestyles and adding to the appeal of the vehicle. GT is dynamic,” said Genesis Creative Director Luc Donckerwolke.

Designers gave the Genesis X Speedium Coupe an asymmetrical interior design with a driver-oriented layout that the company says is aimed at enhancing the electric driving experience. Most of the instrumentation and controls are turned towards the driver, with some items mounted on a spine to split the driver’s and front passenger’s sides of the cockpit. These two sides are further demarcated by contrasting colors, Pinegrove green for the driver side and Monterey yellow for the passenger side.

Genesis claims drivers will get an OLED display with graphics that make a clear break with the gauges found in internal combustion cars. A vertical screen on the center stack handles most of the control functions, and the driver also taps the screen to start the car.

Genesis partnered with Metal Sound Design on the audio system, which includes precision machined aluminum tweeters to optimize sonic performance, the automaker claims. The speakers are also strategically placed for optimal sound. Genesis says this work is done to explore the future of audio experiences.

The interior also features traditional quilted leather seats, as well as cut leather salvaged from old car seats and repurposed to wrap the steering wheel. Genesis used plant-tanned leather treated with plant-based substances, as well as breathable grain leather. Genesis claims that the latter requires less water and chemicals to produce.

Meanwhile, the exterior is an evolution of the muscular stance of the Genesis X concept in 2021with a quick recovery configuration similar to 2019’s Mint and Essentia 2018 the concept. None of the previous concepts went into production and we didn’t see that happen with the X Speedium Coupe either. Genesis says the concept is a design statement that doesn’t preview a specific production model.

Genesis plans to become a full-fledged EV brand, with a six-model lineup by 2030. It’s already out GV60 crossover and electric version of the G80 sedan, with an electric version of GV70 cross to follow shortly. Electricity SUV is bigger than GV80 is also expected.
