One of Intel’s best cheap gaming CPUs, the Core i5 13400F, drops to £189 at Tech Next Day in the UK – vs. £238 for the cheapest 12400/12400F model on Amazon UK. This is a great price for this level of performance, with a 10-core and 16-thread design, a maximum turbo frequency of 4.6 GHz and of course the same socket 1700 compatibility as Intel’s next generation CPUs. 12th and 13th other.

It’s important to note that Intel is a better value option than AMD in some respects, at least when it comes to each brand’s latest CPUs. The Ryzen 7000 requires DDR5 RAM and more expensive motherboards, so you’ll end up paying a bit more for a complete system than a comparable Intel CPU that supports cheaper DDR4 in addition to DDR5 – and in the end As a result, it seems there are more affordable motherboards out there. That’s not as important at the top end, where things like the 7950X or 13900K may be more expensive than your motherboard, but for more budget-oriented mid-range specs, motherboard prices and Higher RAM can significantly eat into your budget.
In terms of performance, I’ve actually got a 13400F here but haven’t put it past the bell yet. Reports elsewhere suggest that it’s significantly faster than the upcoming 12400F, thanks to extra E cores, a 200MHz higher turbo speed, 2MB additional cache, and a higher turbo power limit 31W, but not quite on par with the 13600K and above using the new turbo power. However, most of these only matter if you’re playing games at 1080p and/or at high refresh rates, so for 1440p or 4K games, the 13400F should be more than enough – and so should the 12400F.
As always, it’s important to note that the -F suffix means the 13400F doesn’t have integrated graphics, so you’ll need to use a discrete graphics card in your system. If you need an iGPU, then 13400 (no suffix) is what you want!
