Infighting, infrastructure niggles at Kuno ahead of cheetahs’ big shift | India News

BHOPAL: Only a few days left to move all eight leopards into larger containers (bomas), supposedly ‘infighting‘in the core team participate in Prime Narendra ModiAmbitious projects and lack of arrangement seem to have emerged as major concerns.
Experts say no release date should be discussed until all points of contention have been well resolved for our leopard and the project.
Sources say WII scientist YS Jhala, who plays a key role in the project, may be on leave and the matter remains unresolved. It seems to have been taken to the Prime Minister for revision as Jhala plays a vital role for this project to succeed.
According to the schedule, cheetahs will be moved on October 17 so they can better adapt to their new environment and start basing their prey to start hunting, officers said. The Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF) will send experts to support the MP forest department.
‘Better network at the forest guard’s lodge is needed to monitor cheetahs in real time’
Their team came up with a number of issues that needed to be addressed before they could be moved to larger bombs. Officers must go through a very long checklist before considering transferring cheetahs to bombers.
Some parts of the interior fence are less than 2m high and need reinforcement, while some parts are loose, the sources said. “If the leopard jumps on it, it will bend and the leopard can overtake it,” said Eli Waker, CCF conservation biologist and cheetah expert. “They also need to put rocks along the fence to avoid the bridges under it that could be dug by wild boars. To date, only a small portion of the 11-kilometer internal fence has been electrified, and much of it is still under construction,” said Waker.
The division of a bomb is pending. Boma-5, where Sasha, Savannah and Siyaya, will be released, has very thick and tall vegetation. Sources say jaguars will not be able to hunt in this bomb until the job is completed.
There is also an open well in Boma-5 that is unsafe and should be filled to ensure the cheetah does not fall into it while hunting. The supplies for water points in the bomas are still unclassified. The officers also want the network to be improved at the forest ranger’s lodge so that GPS data and cheetah tracking can be accessed in real-time, after release.
“The length of time cheetahs stay in bomas before being released into the national park depends on how they react to the staff who will be monitoring them. Now we can carry our car around all eight cats with no problem.
Team members need to be able to reach cheetahs in case they get hungry or rush out. For this reason, we cannot say exactly how long the cats will be in the boma before entering the park,” said Barthélémy Balli, CCF Conservation Release Program Manager. Gazette monitoring group at Kuno also need special monitoring equipment and a suitable meat storage facility, especially when there are many cheetahs arriving. The current solar system powering the chiller is not strong enough to keep meat cold on cloudy days. Concerns have been raised regarding the construction of new quarantine areas for South African cheetahs.
Sources say they are being built without proper configuration. “The release of prey in the bomas needs to take place before the eight Namibian jaguars are moved. We anticipate that at least 200 spotted deer will be brought into the barn prior to release. thought carefully and will lead to the best results. Sources say all eight cheetahs are healthy and well fed.
