Ineos confirms plans for new mini electric 4×4

Ineos confirmed that it will offer a second model – a All-electric SUV will sit below the classically styled Grenadier in terms of space and utilize a new, custom-made all-electric platform.

Ineos says the car will ‘retain the Grenadier’s horse DNA and off-road ability’ and we hope it won’t deviate too much from that car’s utilitarian design – especially since it will manufactured at the same Hambach factory in France as it’s larger sibling.

Until now, the Ineos brand has relied on external partners to supply engines for the Grenadier. The petrol and diesel versions of the SUV use BMW car engine. Ineos CEO and President Sir Jim Ratcliffe is also very interested in hydrogen fuel cell technology, whose brand will leverage fuel cells developed by Hyundai for the FCEV version of the Grenadier.

Both BMW and Hyundai are now manufacturers expanding their all-electric offerings, so don’t be surprised to see the new Ineos electric compact SUV integrate electric powertrain and battery technology from one of these two companies into its unique platform.

The new Ineos will enter a rapidly evolving all-electric technology SUV market, competing with things like BMW iX1, Mercedes EQA, Audi Q4 e-tron and Lexus UX300e as a more reliable zero-emissions alternative.
