IndiGo Plane’s Engine Catches Fire Moments Before Take-Off In Delhi

New Delhi:

An IndiGo plane was landed at Delhi airport after one of its engines caught fire on Friday night, seconds before taking off for Bengaluru.

Delhi Police say all passengers and crew on board IndiGo flight 6E-2131 are safe. There were 184 people on board the Airbus A320 that were not evacuated immediately after the incident at around 9:45 pm.

One of the passengers, Priyanka Kumar, posted a video of the incident on Twitter, showing one of the engines catching fire and sparking.

“The flight would probably take off in five to seven seconds. Suddenly, I saw big sparks coming from the wings and it turned into a big fire. And the plane was stopped immediately. The pilot informed. informed us that there was some problem with the engine,” she told NDTV on the phone.

“We are still in the plane. The situation is under control. The fire brigade has arrived. The plane has been taken to a hangar. And IndiGo is arranging another plane for us,” Ms. Kumar said. around 11pm.

“There was panic at first, but the crew made us feel comfortable. Gave us water to drink. There were a lot of old people and children around … everyone is safe, no problem. pull the strings,” she added.

In a statement, IndiGo said, “An aircraft operating flight 6E2131 from Delhi to Bangalore experienced an engine failure during takeoff. The takeoff was aborted and the aircraft returned to the bay. safely.”

“All passengers are being accommodated on an alternative aircraft. We regret the inconvenience caused to the passengers,” it added.
