Freya Kemp’s half-century of history wasn’t enough to prevent India from leveling the IT20 streak against England with an eight-goal Derby win.
The hosts found themselves reduced to 54-5 after choosing to hit the stroke first, but Friday’s 65th match between Kemp and Maia Bouchier put England back on track as they hit 142-6.
Even after Bouchier’s departure at the age of 34, 17-year-old Kemp stood her ground and became the youngest British player to set an IT20 record in half a century as she went 51 games unbeaten after just 37 balls.
However, Smriti Mandhana got India off to a good start in their answer, with an opening scoreline of 55 alongside Shafali Verma and a left-hander 79 that didn’t go out that saw holidaymakers pass the line. with 20 spare balls to send the series to the decider in Bristol on Thursday.
