India’s envoy to US hands over Padma Bhushan to Sundar Pichai


WASHINGTON: Indian Ambassador to the United States, Taranjit Singh Sandhu presented the Padma Bhushan, one of the country’s highest civilian awards, to the CEO of Google and Alphabet Sundar Pichai in San Francisco.
Sharing on Twitter, Sandhu said: “Delighted to hand over Padma Bhushan to @Google& Alphabet CEO @sundarpichai in San Francisco. Sundar’s inspirational journey from #Madurai to Mountain View, strengthening the relationship India-US economy and technology, reaffirming the contribution of Indian talent to global innovation.”
On the eve of the 73rd Republic Day, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced that Sundar Pichai would be given the title of Padma Bhushan.
After receiving the Padma Bhushan award from Sandhu, Pichai wrote on his blog: “I would like to thank Ambassador Sandhu and Consul General Prasad for organizing me to receive the Padma Bhushan award. I am extremely grateful to the government of India and It is a great honor to the people of India for this. It is very meaningful to be honored in this way because the country that has shaped me.”

According to the blog, the Google CEO said he was fortunate to grow up in a family that valued learning and knowledge, with his parents making great sacrifices to ensure that he had the opportunity to explore his interests. mine.

“We recently announced that we will invest $10 billion in India’s digital future, working to make internet access more affordable, building products for India’s unique needs, helping businesses of all sizes digitally transform and use AI to solve major societal challenges,” said the Google CEO.
He added: “We are also investing deeply in digital skills and have trained more than 1 million women through the WomenWill Entrepreneurship Program and over 55,000 teachers in partnership with government and local organisations. We’ve also funded over 100,000 Google Career Certificates sponsored in partnership with the NASSCOM Foundation and Tata Strive.”
Speaking of languages ​​added to Google Translate, Pichai said eight of the 24 languages ​​are native to India. It means a lot to see how people can access information and knowledge in their preferred language, and see the world open to them in new ways.
