Indian T20 team needs more batters who can bowl: Anil Kumble | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Power hit will dominate T20 cricket going on and the Indian team needs to play a branded cricket where good hitters contribute with the ball to create balance for the team, former coach Indian team member Anil Kumble suggested.
Team India was blown away by Englandthose in power Alex Hales and Jos Buttler in T20 World Cup semi-finals in Adelaide on Thursday.

India’s timid batting approach received criticism from all quarters as it resulted in a crushing defeat that saw the side drop out of the premier ICC event.
“…what I feel is definitely the right thing to do is, we keep talking about how bowlers need to hit the ball. But I think in Indian cricket you also need hitters. ball to balance the team,” Kumble was quoted by ESPNcricinfo.com.
“That’s exactly what England have. They have too many choices. They used Liam Livingstone. Moeen Ali barely bowling in this tournament. So those are the options you need. ”

Kumble sees errors in the selection of Indian teams, saying current trends need to change.
“Unfortunately, even in India. A team is chosen, mostly unsuccessful hitters. It’s important to create that brand of cricket and say this is how the Indian team will do it and it will follow the correct system.
“I think the more and more you play T20, it’s going to be like this, where you come in and show your strength. So that’s exactly how I think T20 is going to go,” he said.
Kumble is of the opinion that every player should understand the specific role assigned to him, and once that’s done, the whole team should stick to it.
He has gone to the point of saying that that role should not be limited to the national team and that the players must return to domestic cricket with the same mindset.

“Of course, one is having the brand of cricket and then picking the players to do that but I think it’s important that these players play their specific role wherever they play.
“Because it’s not just about playing that role for India and then going back to your domestic cricket and your franchise cricket and then changing the way you’re going to do it. For example, Box today (Thursday) beat India in 6th, he went on in 19th. He never did that in domestic cricket,” he said.
“So you need some sort of role definition there and that’s what I think is very important if you’re going to build a strong team where you need support for those roles and not necessarily are your six best players no matter what role they play. Maybe. It’s very difficult to do that in a World Cup.”
