Luke Jongwe (2/33) produced a brace, knocking out Ishan Kishan (6) and Shubman Gill in consecutive passes, to reduce India to 97 for four at halftime.
But just 65 runs from 36 laps, Deepak Hooda and Samson created a logical situation with 56 runs together to virtually decide the fate of the match.
With nine runs to the win, Hooda was knocked out by Sikandar Raza but Samson remained undefeated with 43 (39 balls; 2×4, 4×6) and finished it with six shots knocking Innocent Kaia out in the 26th round.
Having been crowned 192 times in a row in their previous win, Dhawan and Gill did not open together this time with captain Rahul choosing to go with the former.
