New ZealandHopes of leveling the T20 series against India with a win in the last match on Tuesday dealt a blow to the captain Kane Williamson refuse the match for a medical appointment.
Tim Southee will captain the team for the third T20 tournament in Napier on Tuesday, with the Auckland player Mark Chapman joined the team at Williamson’s location, New Zealand Baseball speak.
Coach Gary Stead did not provide details about Williamson’s appointment but said it was not related to the perennial elbow problems that have plagued the Black Caps captain.
“It’s something he’s been trying to sign up for for a while,” Stead said Monday.
“There was an opportunity that came and we decided to let Kane take it.”
India beat the hosts with 65 runs in their second T20 at Mount Maunganui on Sunday, leading 1-0 in a three-game series after the opening goal in Wellington was knocked out.
Williamson will rejoin the team in Auckland on Wednesday ahead of the ODI series opener at Eden Park on Friday.
