India-made Volkswagen Virtus scores 5 stars in Latin NCAP crash test
The Volkswagen Virtus The compact car has added a new touch to its hat by earning five stars in the Latin NCAP crash test results. The product made in India with six airbags and ESC as standard achieved an impressive score of 92.35% in the protection of Adults and 91.84% in the protection of Child Passengers. . In addition to Virtus, Latin NCAP also tested the VW Polo and Toyota Corolla in the latest round of crash tests. Please note that the vehicle tested is a base variant of the Latin spec version and has been voluntarily tested by Volkswagen.
The Volkswagen Virtus has undergone a number of crash tests including frontal impact, side impact, side pillar collision, high impact, pedestrian protection, Automatic City Emergency Braking (AEB) urban and inter-urban and ESC.
Virtus showed adequate protection for adults in frontal crash testing. The results recorded that the structure and area of the well foot were stable. There is good enough protection in the side impact test, while the pole side impact test shows good border protection in the chest and good protection for the rest of the body. The car scored well in Child protection in the dynamics tests.
It also showed decent head protection in most areas in the Pedestrian Protection test but the upper and lower legs showed weak protection. Latin NCAP notes that while VW offers the Virtus with the AEB VRU in some Latin American markets, it does not meet the testing agency’s equipment requirements. The agency suggests that wider availability of the technology will help improve cars’ pedestrian safety scores.
Furthermore, the Latin Volkswagen Virtus showed good performance with Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), while the standard ESC test performed well and reached speeds of up to 95 km/h and 70 km/h in both ADAC and Moose tests, respectively.
Volkswagen Virtus is manufactured in India at the automaker’s facility in Chakan, Maharashtra for the domestic and export markets. The Latin American market has always had a leading position for VW India in terms of exports. The company has also previously shipped the Vento sedan to market. The Volkswagen Taigun also recently earned an impressive five-star safety rating in the Global NCAP crash test results.
