India is world’s 4th in research output, but ranks 9th in citations | India News



MUMBAI: India is one of the fastest growing countries research Center In the world. But not all of that study problem. And that could be a matter of concern, according to QS, the agency that has been looking closely at what is being published, by whom and how much.
From 2017 to 2022 Research results of India has increased by about 54%, according to the sciVal insight database. This is more than double the global average and much larger than its more academically reputable Western counterparts. The global average for research growth is 22% from 2017 to 2022.
India’s research output is the fourth highest worldwide (1.3 million academic papers from 2017 to 2022), behind world leaders China (4.5 million), the United States ( 4.4 million) and UK (1.4 million). At the current growth rate, India is poised to overtake the UK in terms of research volume in the near future.

In total, India produced 1.3 million academic articles between 2017-2022, generating 8.9 million citations. But take a closer look and there’s another reality going on. “When it comes to the impact of research generated, in terms of number of citations, India lags behind, ranking ninth in the world in terms of number of citations generated between 2017 and 2022, showing that Efforts and funding will be best directed towards relevant, high-quality research and ensure this research is disseminated among the academic community,” said QS research director Ben Sowter.
On the other hand, China has three times as much science as India and generates five times as many citations. India’s richest research area is engineering and technology (52.6% of total research output), where its main focus is equally divided between petroleum engineering and computer science, followed by an almost equal share of research in the natural sciences (36%) and the life sciences and medicine (35%).
India generates 19% of its research output with international collaborators, matching the global average of 21% and matching that of its closest competitors. The 11 Public and Private Eminence Institutes of India have produced over 150,000 scholarly articles, generated 1.4 million citations, and recorded an average research growth rate of 35% since 2017. The only Eminence Institutes maintained a growth rate 13% higher than the global average.
