India, Asean pledge peace & stability in Indo-Pacific | India News


NEW DELHI: India and Asean in a joint statement on Saturday reaffirming the importance of maintaining and promoting peace, stability, navigational safety, and freedom of navigation and overflight in the Indo-Pacific region, at the same time commits to peaceful settlement of disputes, in accordance with international law, including UNCLOS.
They called for establishing a comprehensive strategic partnership and strengthening counter-terrorism cooperation as Vice-Presidents. Jagdeep Dhankhari Speaking at the 19th ASEAN-India Summit in Phnom Penh.
The ASEAN nations highly appreciate India’s support for ASEAN’s central role in the evolving regional architecture and its continued contribution to the peace, security and prosperity of the region. as well as ASEAN integration and ASEAN community building process, according to the joint statement. As previously decided, the “informal meeting” of the defense ministers of India and ASEAN is scheduled to take place soon.
India and ASEAN also agreed to strengthen cooperation against terrorism and transnational crimes, including international economic crime and money laundering, cybercrime, drugs, human trafficking and arms smuggling. They also called for extensive cooperation in the field of military medicine.
Dhankhar and PM Cambodia Hun Sen hold discussions on ways to further strengthen bilateral relations, including in areas such as human resources, exploration and development projects.
