Increase the Alberta Breed Improvement Program

Total allocations to the Alberta Thoroughbred Breed Improvement Program increased 19% to $1,886,660 this year from $1,581,465 in 2021. Breeders will share in the total Support. rancher’s subsidy was $472,830, including an additional $132,598 from last year’s $340,232. In 2021, the highest paid breeders bonus is $41,850 and the average breeder bonus is $3,658.

A total of $472,830 is available in Owner’s Breeding Assistance, including $100,000 to fund the wallet of limited races bred in Alberta. The 2022 endowment for both Breeders and Owners’ has also increased by 39% this season. Funds will be distributed to Alberta breeders and horse owners of all ages, win, place and show off in all Alberta sanctioned races for a minimum amount. $7,000 and when entered at or above the minimum ask price is $6,250.

Owners of Alberta Breeders with $300,000 designated for restricted Alberta Breeders’ Classic races will have a minimum of $50,000 per race.

Stall Owners’ Breeding Assistance offers a $65,000 stipend for stallions paid accordingly to stall owners whose eligible stallions are of Alberta thoroughbred with income of $10,000 or more in the calendar year. The trunks must stand in the province of Alberta throughout the calendar year to conceive for each new year’s crop to be eligible.
