In Puducherry, Class 8 Boy Dies Of Poisoning, Classmates’ Mother Arrested
Karaikal:
An 8th grader in Puducherry’s Karaikal died after drinking a cold drink, believed to have been poisoned by his classmates’ mother.
According to Rajendran, the father of Bala Manikandan, a worker at a reasonably priced store in Karaikal, his son went to school for the annual rehearsal on Saturday.
The boy returned home in the afternoon and started vomiting. He told his parents he had been vomiting since he drank the cold drink the school custodian gave him, his father said.
Bala was immediately admitted to Karaikal Government Hospital, where he died during treatment.
The school told the parents that Bala drank cold water sent by them. “We didn’t give our son cold water before he left school,” the father said.
The parents then asked the guard Devadhas, who said a person claiming to be a relative of Bala Manikandan gave him the drink and asked him to pass it on to the boy.
CCTV footage shows the drinker as Sakaya Rani Victoria, whose child is in the same class.
Malathi, Bala’s mother, filed a complaint at Karaikal city police station, alleging that Sakaya Rani Victoria poisoned the drink. She was arrested.
Police are investigating whether the woman allegedly poisoned the drink due to a rivalry between her children and Bala. A case has been registered.
