In big hint, Congress indicates Rahul Gandhi won’t contest president election | India News

NEW DELHI: Even as Rajasthan Prime Minister Ashok Gehlot and Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor may be preparing to compete Conference presidential election, likely party leader Rahul Gandhi will not be part of the race.
Rahul, who is leading the Bharat Jodo Yatra Congress in Kerala, is scheduled to visit New Delhi on September 23 to meet his mother and the party’s interim president Sonia Gandhi. September 23 is Queen Padyatra’s day of rest.
Rahul will return to Kerala the same night to continue his march the next morning, the party said.
The nomination process will begin on September 24 and run until September 30, meaning Rahul will not be in the national capital to apply.
Parliament speaker and media chief Jairam Ramesh has confirmed that there are no plans for Rahul to visit Delhi during those days.
“Bharat Jodo Yatra will resume on the morning of 24th (September). And, nominations cannot be submitted via Zoom (app.) Nominations must be submitted in person in Delhi. There are no plans for Mr. Gandhi arrived in Delhi between Day 24 and Day 1. So I answered your question as honestly as I could on the basis of the information I have so far,” said Ramesh.
According to the yatra itinerary, Rahul has a packed schedule on the days when the nomination process will take place.
Furthermore, nominations must be filed in Delhi and in person. They cannot be submitted online.
Speaking to the press, Ramesh said that every Saturday is a day off for yatris, adding that if Rahul comes to Delhi, it will be one of these days. Most likely that will be September 23.
“…he (Rahul) will probably sleep in a container in Chalakudy (Kerala) tomorrow night. Now if he goes on the morning of the 23rd (September), it will be to meet his mother. It will not be to submit his nomination papers. He will be back on the night of the 23rd (September),” Ramesh said.
He added that Rahul is expected to visit his mother in Delhi as she has just returned to the country after medical treatment.
