The Central Governor of Delhi, VK Saxena, approved an investigation into the Delhi government’s purchase of 1,000 low-floor buses, sparking new tensions with the Aam Aadmi Party government led by Arvind Kejriwal. The Delhi government has alleged that the investigation is politically motivated and that the Lieutenant-Colonel Governor should first clear his name of the corruption allegations against him.
Officials said the Central Bureau of Investigation, or CBI, has been tasked with conducting an investigation into the purchase of 1,000 low-floor buses by Delhi Transport Corporation.
The decision to hand over the case to the investigative body was made at the request of chief secretary Naresh Kumar.
The Central Governor received a complaint in June this year, alleging corruption and irregularity in the appointment of the Delhi transport minister as chairman of the committee regarding bus procurement and procurement and the appointment Delhi Integrated Multimodal Transport System (DIMTS) as a management consultant is accused of facilitating irregularities in bus purchases.
The Central Governor submitted this complaint to the Chief Secretary in July, and received the report from the Chief Secretary in August, officials said.
In his report, the Secretary-General pointed out serious deviations in the bidding process. “There was a serious breach of CVC guidelines and general financial rules,” the report said, adding that DIMTS had intentionally acted as a consultant to conceal discrepancies in the bidding process.
Based on the report, the Central Governor has now forwarded the complaint to the CBI, the sources said, adding that the CBI has conducted a preliminary investigation into the matter.
Mr. Saxena approved the analysis of the present complaint with the complaint questioned by the central investigative agency.
The Delhi government countered that the Governor’s decision was politically motivated.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has alleged that Mr Saxena abused his position and awarded the interior design contract of the Khadi lounge in Mumbai to his daughter when he was chairman of the Khadi and Village Industry Committee (KVIC) ).
Citing the charges against Mr. Saxena, it said “He should first respond to the corruption allegations against him. The Lieutenant-Colonel Governor should first respond to the corruption allegations against himself.
