ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Islamabad High Court grants temporary bail for former prime minister and Pakistan President of Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan on Tuesday, hours after a court issued an inadmissible arrest warrant against him for skipping hearings in Toshakhana the case involved the purchase of gifts from the state archives.
Imran was asked to appear in person in four cases, including one with attempted murder, which are scheduled to be heard in different courts in Islamabad during the day.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmaker Moshin Nawaz Ranjha has filed the attempted murder case against Imran last October after being attacked outside the Election Commission’s office in Islamabad, where PTI workers and supporters were protesting the removal of their party leader from parliament over the Toshakhana affair.
A terrorism case has also been filed against him for a violent protest by PTI supporters outside the election authority’s office against his decision to disqualify him.
civilian Federal Bureau of Investigation booked Imran and other PTI leaders weeks earlier in connection with their party’s alleged receipt of banned funding. The case was filed by the state through the agency’s corporate banking circle in Islamabad.
Imran had traveled from Lahore, where he was recovering from a gunshot wound, to Islamabad’s judicial complex, which houses the banking court as well as the counterterrorism court.
While he was released on bail in three cases, the court issued a warrant for his arrest without bail in the Toshakhana case and adjourned the hearing until March 7. Soon after this setback, Imran made it to Islamabad. HC, which issued him bail before his arrest until March 9 with a bond amount of Rs 1 lakh ($480).
