IIT-Delhi to begin its first session at UAE campus from September 24

NEW DELHI: Offshore campus of Indian Institute of TechnologyDelhi, in the capital Abu Dhabi of the United Arab Emirates will start operations from September 2024 with the first batch starting the course.

According to an official from the Ministry of Education, IIT-D is launching a new curriculum from the 2023 semester and will also introduce it in the UAE campus.
On February 18 of this year, as part of India-UAE trade agreement, the Center announced the establishment of a facility in the UAE. Since then, the two sides have been communicating with each other to come up with proposed follow-up measures.
Earlier, a central government panel recommended that IITs setting up their overseas facilities could receive royalties for using the brand name.
Proposing that the best governance system from anywhere in the world, including the governance structure of the IIT, should be in place for these institutes, the 17-member council chaired by the standing committee The governance structure should be such that while the connection with the advisory IITs is maintained, there is no need for any approval from the IIT advisor or the government of India, said the IIT K panel headed by Radhakrishnan. .”
It further recommends: “The establishment of an IIT (in India) should take something back from the institute abroad. For example, there may be royalties when using the IIT trademark. Protective measures are needed. to protect the IIT brand in the long run. Every effort should be made to ensure that the IIT brand is not diluted.”
