“If You Take Gujaratis And Rajasthanis Out”
Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari has caused controversy by saying that if Gujaratis and Rajasthanis are taken out of Maharashtra, the state will run out of money. In a speech yesterday, the governor of Maharashtra said, “If Gujaratis and Rajasthanis are removed from Maharashtra, especially Mumbai and Thane, there will be no money here.”
“Mumbai will not be able to continue to be the financial capital of the country,” Koshiyari added.
He made the statement following the naming ceremony of a chowk in Andheri, a western suburb of Mumbai.
A statement issued by Raj Bhavan said Koshyari praised the contribution of the Rajasthani-Marwari and Gujarati communities in making Mumbai the financial capital of the country.
The governor said the Rajasthani-Marwari community is living in different parts of the country and also in countries like Nepal and Mauritius.
“Wherever the members of this community go, they not only do business but also do charity by creating schools, hospitals,” he said.
Several leaders from Shiv Sena and the National Assembly criticized Mr. Kohisyari and demanded an apology.
Congressman Sanjay Raut of Shiv Sena today condemns remarks saying that the Governor has offended hard-working Marathi people.
“Shortly after the BJP sponsored minister came to power, the marathi man is outraged,” Mr Raut wrote on Twitter in Marathi.
Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh and Sachin Sawant also tweeted the video and said the governor should not have made the comment.
