Via Jack Tiernan: Dillian Whyte seems to be in denial after losing to WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury by a sixth-round knock-out last Saturday night.
After the fight, Whyte (28-3, 19 KOs) said he felt the competition was a “Fight close,“And he doesn’t “Outstanding” by Fury.
Aside from the sixth round knockdown, there wasn’t much going on in the fight, as Whyte points out. None of the guys achieved anything in the first five rounds of the competition.
Although Fury is clearly dominating with his jabs and right hand, he’s not beating Whyte the way Anthony Joshua did in 2015. Fury is slowly ramping up the rounds by punching Whyte, Play safe and don’t let him land his powerful left hook.
Reality told a different story. Fury (32-0-1 23 KOs) dominated five of six rounds and easily won the skirmish after knocking out a nice uppercut on the right in the sixth round that sent Whyte down first on the frame.
If Whyte’s resistance to punches had been better, he’d be up and no worse wearing. Unfortunately, 34-year-old Whyte was too sore to be allowed to continue after he returned from a sixth round knockdown.
It would be tragic if Whyte was allowed to continue fighting in a physical state like after waking up.
“I don’t think there was much in the fight, it was a close fight. It was a miss and then I was caught with the shot. How is it, man. I don’t feel inferior or he’s at this level and I’m at that level,” Whyte told the BBC after the Fury loss.
Whyte didn’t outperform Fury like Deontay Wilder in their second fight, but he never competed. One never had the feeling that Whyte would be able to make a comeback after his early fall to Fury.
Fury’s coach Sugarhill Steward told iFL TV: “I definitely do and these things can be made public. “It’s electrified but it hasn’t hit me yet,” Sugarhill said in the glow of Fury’s sixth round of Whyte knockout.
“In a few days, that will probably hit me as I am watching it on TV and seeing the crowd from a different perspective. My adrenaline continued, and was very excited about the whole event in the fight and watching Tyson perform.
“Yes, because he’s happy,” Sugarhill said, when asked if he was “happy to see Tyson retire.” “It doesn’t matter if he fights or not for me. Like I say, he’s the knockout king of the division and the king of the sport,” Sugarhill said of Fury.
