Eddie Hearn has responded to radio host Simon Jordan, arguing that the former Crystal Palace boss “needs” to engage with “big names” like him.
Jordan criticized content on streaming service DAZN in a recent interview, stated that boxing currently on offer is below average.
In an interview with Boxing IDHearn said that Jordan was entitled to his opinion, but was quick to jump in defense DAZN.
“People like Simon Jordan need to clash with the big names. I felt pretty flattered when he called me out, that’s his claim to fame at the moment – try Eddie Hearn.
“The DAZN content is great as well as the upcoming schedule, but Simon is entitled to his opinion.”
“He’s the new boxing expert on Talksport, and I’m sure I’ll see him soon.”
The popularity of “mixed” boxing on the platform, through their partnership with Misfits, drew criticism from fans of the traditional sport.
UK fans in particular were quick to express their displeasure, with some even feeling that Matchroom had fallen behind leagues like Queensberry and Boxxer in the country over the past 12 months.
The announcement of a “tagging group” war in the upcoming Misfits cards drew fresh discontent from some subscribers, with even Hearn struggling to defend the concept.
The domestic schedule looks set to improve in the coming months, as an announcement of the imminent return of Anthony Joshua as well as the battle back home in Ireland for national hero Katie Taylor – potentially against old nemesis Amanda Serrano.
