Hyundai to unveil Ioniq 5 for India tomorrow: Important things you should know


Hyundai Motor will officially launch the Ioniq 5, its second electric vehicle for India after the Kona Electric SUV, tomorrow. The electric crossover, which has hit the global market, will hit Indian roads shortly after the automaker announced pre-orders would open a day later, from October 20. hyundai is expected to launch the Ioniq 5, the car that won the World Car of the Year 2022, next month at the earliest. The Korean automaker is likely to introduce the electric crossover to everyone at Auto Expo 2023 to be held next month in Delhi. Here are some important things about EVs that one should know.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is the Korean automaker’s first electric model to be developed on the latest e-GMP or Global Electric Modular Platform used only for electric vehicles. Ioniq 5 shares the same platform with its technical brother that EV6, arrived in India earlier this year. The platform resembles a skateboard with all four wheels placed in the corners and the battery pack placed under the flat floor.

Hyundai has confirmed that the Ioniq 5 will offer a customizable interior, including individual seating and storage options. The EV will offer a Premium Relax Seat in the front that offers reclining with calf support and relaxation functions. It also comes with power adjustment and lumbar support. Its slim design can help expand the space inside the cabin.

The second row also offers more features. Rear passengers will have control in their hands to adjust the co-driver’s seat from behind with the push of a button to expand legroom. The seat also offers a memory function with settings for up to three seat positions. To offer even more customization options, Hyundai also offers a sliding center console that can move up to 140 mm.

In addition to the comfortable seats and customizable space, the interior of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 also features a 12.3-inch HD touchscreen main display, another 12.3-inch driver display, and wireless phone charging. , windshield display, sunroof and more.

In terms of safety, the Ioniq 5 will be one of the safest cars on Indian roads. The 2021 model year in Europe earned a five-star safety rating in the Euro NCAP crash test. The EV is equipped with safety features, including Hyundai SmartSense Level 2 ADAS function. This will include up to 21 features such as Lane Keeping Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning and Driver Attention Alert among others. Some of these features have been introduced by the car manufacturer in the new generation Tucson SUVs earlier this year.

Hyundai has not announced the battery capacity that will be available on the Ioniq 5 for the Indian market. In global markets, Hyundai offers the EV with two battery packs. The smaller 58 kWh battery pack offers a range of about 385 km on a single charge. There is also a 72.6 kWh battery pack that has a range of up to 480 km on a single charge. The battery can be recharged to 80% in 18 minutes using a 350 kW DC fast charger.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 is considered the most expensive model of the Korean automaker in India. If the price of the Kia EV6 is a hint, the expected price of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is likely to go far $50 thousand. At launch, the Ioniq 5 will compete with the EV6 as well as other competitors including the Volvo XC40 Recharge.
