Hyundai Ioniq 6 impresses with Euro NCAP



HYUNDAI’s upcoming Ioniq 6 electric sedan has won first place in the European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP), which awards the sleek four-door ‘Best Car in its Class’ award in the ‘Large family car’ category.

Adding to the accolades for the award is that last year was the independent vehicle rating organization’s busiest year with 66 new passenger cars evaluated.

The Euro NCAP ‘Best in Class’ calculation is done using a weighted sum of scores in each of the four assessment areas: Adult occupant protection, child occupant protection, protect vulnerable pedestrians and assist safety.

Cars qualify as ‘Best in Class’ based solely on their ratings with standard safety equipment and additional ratings based on optional equipment are excluded.

According to the Euro NCAP statement, the Ioniq 6 achieved an “exceptionally high result” in terms of adult passenger protection with a score of 97%, taking first place in the category.

The Ioniq 6 has earned further acclaim in the area of ​​child passenger protection, with an 87% score of good protection for all key body areas of both the 6-year-old and the 6-year-old pacifier. 10 years of age in the front deflection and side rail tests for the maximum score in these assessments.

The model also achieves a high score of 90% for safety assistance, and comes standard with Hyundai’s latest Smart Sense technology suite, which also allows the Ioniq 6 to qualify as a Level 2 autonomous vehicle.

Coming to Australia soon, the Ioniq 6 is built on the same E-GMP dedicated EV platform as its stablemate Ioniq 5 which has been around for a few years, but longer, sleeker and more aerodynamic.
