Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV launched in India, pre-order for Rs 1 lakh


After a long wait, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV has finally been launched in India. The new product is positioned as an SUV and will be the brand’s new flagship. The automaker will start taking pre-orders for Ioniq 5 with a token amount of $1 lakh on its website while the launch will take place next year.

Ioniq 5 is Hyundai’s second all-electric model for India since Kona electricity. It will compete with the Kia EV6, Mercedes-Benz EQB and likes in the segment. Hyundai’s flagship is based on the Hyundai Motor Group’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), which is also the foundation for EV6.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is built with a futuristic design based on the brand’s Sensuous Sportiness theme. The minimalist theme minimizes angular lines and features an active air wing (AAF) for better aerodynamic performance. This model features Parametric Pixel LED headlights and a clamshell bonnet, while the pixel theme extends to the alloy wheels. You also get automatic flush door handles. The rear sports pixel-spec LED taillights with the Hyundai logo are located in the center of the trunk lid. The EV measures 4,635 mm long, 1,890 mm wide and 1,625 mm high. The wheelbase measures 3,000 mm.

Power comes from a floor-mounted 72.6 kWh battery pack that promises a range of 631 km (ARAI Certified). The electric motor produces 214 hp and 350 nm of peak torque. Hyundai claims the EV can be charged from 10 to 80% in just 18 minutes using a 350 kW DC charger. It also comes with Hyundai SmartSense Level 2 ADAS and Vehicle 2 Loading functionality.

The premium-looking cabin is finished in dark cobblestone grey. It has eco-treated leather seats, soft materials on the dashboard, a 12.3-inch digital cluster, and a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, car tech that is connectivity, Bose sound system, ventilated seats, dual-zone climate control and more. The model also gets six airbags, ABS with EBD, Engine Parking Brake, all four disc brakes and more as part of the safety kit. Trunk capacity is 571 liters with a front trunk also available.

The Ioniq 5 will be available in three colors – Gravity matte gold, optical white and midnight pearl black.
