Hyundai i20 facelift test revealed: design changes, engine options



The facelift of the premium hatchback was first spotted testing, with cosmetic updates to the front fascia visible.

A mid-life innovation for hyundai i20 being carried out because a disguised test mule of the updated model was discovered for testing abroad. The current generation i20 launched globally in early 2020, which means it’s time for a mid-life update.

Hyundai i20 facelift: What does the sneak peek reveal?

Although the test mule is wrapped in dense camouflage, it still gives us some insight into the updated i20. What’s strikingly visible is that the facelifted i20 will have a slightly tweaked front grille. There may be updates to other soft parts, such as the front bumper and headlights.

In terms of form, the facelifted i20 doesn’t appear to have brought any major changes, although there may be a new set of alloy wheels (the wheel covers are for the lower variants). The test mule is seen with plastic wheel covers, suggesting this is a base variant. However, the leaked images do not reveal anything about the rear of the i20 facelift. However, one can expect tweaks to the bumper and taillight design – maybe even an LED light bar like in the facelifted Venue.

We also haven’t had a look at the new i20’s interior yet. Updates may be available in the form of new color and upholstery options along with new graphics for the digital and infotainment instrument cluster. And while the i20 is already widely available, it could benefit from updated infotainment software, more USB ports, and additional connected car features.

All updates can also be expected to include it sportier N-Line variantalong with N-Line specific changes.

Hyundai i20 facelift: powertrain options

Like we have reported beforeHyundai will stop offering the 1.5-litre diesel engine on the i20 when the stricter RDE emissions standards come into effect from April 2023. This means that the upgraded i20 when it launches in India will only be available in India. offered as a gasoline engine.

As a result, the facelift i20 will be offered with a 120hp 1.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine and an 83hp 1.2-liter naturally aspirated engine. Gearbox options will likely be carried forward unchanged from the current model.

Hyundai i20 facelift: launch schedule and competitors

Hyundai has just started testing the i20 facelift, which means the global launch of the model can be expected around mid-2023. After that, it will only arrive in India by the end of 2023. or early 2024. When it arrives, the i20 will continue to compete with the likes of Maruti Baleno, Tata Altroz and Toyota Glanz.
