Hyundai Creta 2023 Engine and Safety Feature Update: RDE and E20 Compliant



RDE-compliant Creta is currently Rs 45,000 more expensive for diesel models, while petrol is now Rs 20,000 more expensive.

Hyundai has updated the Creta midsize SUV with RDE and E20 compliant engines, and has also implemented safety features such as six airbags as standard across the range. This comes just before the RDE standards are implemented from April 2023, although the price of the SUV has now risen to Rs 45,000. The Hyundai Creta is currently priced from Rs 10.84 – lakh 19.13 (ex-showroom, India).

Hyundai Creta 2023: has a cleaner engine

While there are no changes to the engine lineup or engine output figures, both the petrol and diesel engines on the Creta are now E20 compliant, meaning it can now run on fuel. 20% ethanol blend. This required some modifications to the fuel system, engine tuning and rubber hoses to handle the more corrosive nature of ethanol. The government will begin rolling out E20 fuel in phases from April 2023 onwards.

The engines are now also RDE compliant, meaning they are cleaner when tested for emissions under more stringent real-world conditions than conventional lab tests under the MIDC (Test Cycle) cycle India modified). To that effect, all engines now also have an idling start/stop system as standard, helping to save fuel. The deadline for all new cars to be RDE compliant in India is also April 2023.

Hyundai Creta 2023: added standard safety features

As part of the 2023 model year update, Hyundai has also implemented a number of standard safety features across the range. The Creta now has six airbags right from the base E version, as well as ESC, VSM, hill assist, rear disc brakes, seat belt height adjustment and ISOFIX mounts. So far, six airbags have only been offered on the top-spec SX(O) model while ESC, hill-start assist, rear disc brakes and ISOFIX mounts are offered from the SX trim onwards. The Creta now also features a 60:40 split-folding of the rear seats as standard – a feature that was also previously offered from the SX version onwards.

Hyundai has also rolled out similar updates on the Venue and Alacazar SUVs. Hyundai’s entire SUV lineup is now RDE and E20 compliant.
