HyperX’s $50 Cloud Stinger 2 is the perfect choice for a gaming headset

After hours of work, I turn to gaming to relax, and having a headset is definitely an essential component of the experience. Gaming headsets can be expensive, but HyperX Cloud Stinger 2 – the latest release from the company – significantly cheaper than the competition while offering specs that don’t necessarily scream “compromise”.
I’ve been testing HyperX Cloud Stinger 2 for several weeks for gaming – and music. On Spotify, K. Flay and Grandson songs feel very small in my ears. However, this headset is designed for gaming purposes and when I start it Halo and Far Cry: PrimalThe difference in quality amazed me.
In the Far Cry franchise, spatial sound is essential for me to better listen to my surroundings and do stealthy, tactical takedowns. The 50mm drivers use DTS Headphone: X Spatial Audio and the software gave me the upper hand as I traveled around the Valley saving Wenja tribe members in Primordial. I’ve often been impressed by my sound like life, especially given the $49 price tag. It’s worth noting here that DTS Headphone: X Spatial Audio is a paid subscription, although HyperX comes with a two-year activation code when you purchase the Cloud Stinger 2.
Recently, I tested another budget-friendly headset – SteelSeries Arctis Nova 1 . headset. Compared to Nova 1, sold at retail extra $10HyperX Cloud Stinger 2 works to its fullest, except for one important area: the microphone.

There’s a noise-cancelling microphone built into the $49 headset. Rebecca Isaacs / ZDNET
While the built-in noise-cancelling microphone worked, I asked my partner what my voice was like and was told that the Cloud Stinger 2 sounds louder but more muffled than the Nova 1. Basically, if you want your team to hear you cry for help. in one Halo battle with aliens, then Stinger 2 gets the job done. Just don’t expect them to completely understand every word you say.
One main thing to note: the microphone doesn’t retract or detach, so those who want a more discreet headset when not gaming or using a voice connection will want to look elsewhere. It’s also not wirelessly compatible, in case you want to pair it via Bluetooth or an adapter.
In terms of comfort, the Cloud Stinger 2 comes with HyperX’s Signature Comfort, which features memory foam that wraps around the headband and earmuffs. I bet for a better weekend wearing these and they feel comfortable all the time.
Finally, if you really need a retractable microphone and clear voice, I recommend you to choose Nova 1 . Headphones. But if your budget is limited to $50 and/or you want a decent mid-range headset, then Cloud Stinger 2 well worth a look.
