Hun Sen of Cambodia Cuts G20 Trip Short After Testing Positive for Covid


BALI, Indonesia – Prime Minister Hun Sen of Cambodia on Tuesday said he has tested positive for Covid-19 and his delegation will cut short its trip to Bali for the Group of 20 summit.

Hun Sen has met with more than a dozen world leaders over the past three days, including President Biden, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India. They all flew to Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, to meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nationsstarting Saturday.

The White House told reporters on Tuesday that Mr Biden tested negative that morning and is not considered a close contact, as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

In a Facebook post, Hun Sen wrote that before leaving Cambodia, he was checked daily, including before boarding a plane to Bali, an Indonesian island.

“Luckily I did not attend the dinner organized by the French government with many heads of state last night, because I was late,” he said.

Hun Sen said the Cambodian delegation would return home on Tuesday and that he would skip the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Bangkok at the weekend, where he had scheduled a meeting with the country’s top leader. China, Xi Jinping and President Emmanuel Macron of France.

Mr. Hun Sen and Mr. Biden shook hands in Phnom Penh on Saturday. Do not wear a mask. Then they had a meeting that lasted about half an hour. On Monday night, Mr. Biden developed a cough while speaking to reporters and told them he had a cold.
